lipoedema awareness month

June is Lipoedema Awareness Month, a time to shed light on a condition that affects millions of women but often goes undiagnosed — and misdiagnosed as obesity. We're here to raise awareness, share support, and provide real solutions to help manage Lipoedema with confidence and comfort to affected women.

what is lipoedema?

what is lipoedema?

Lipoedema is a chronic, progressive disorder characterized by the abnormal accumulation of fat cells, primarily in the legs and, less commonly, the arms. This condition leads to a symmetrical enlargement of the limbs, often resulting in pain, tenderness, and easy bruising. Despite being frequently misdiagnosed as obesity or lymphedema, lipoedema is distinct in its presentation and requires specialized management.

Hormonal Influence: Lipoedema predominantly affects women and is often triggered or exacerbated during hormonal changes such as puberty, pregnancy, or menopause.

Resistant to Diet and Exercise: Unlike general obesity, the fat deposits associated with lipoedema do not respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

Importance of Early Diagnosis: Recognizing lipoedema early is crucial for effective management, which may include compression therapy, manual lymphatic drainage, and, in some cases, surgical intervention.
